Building your credit history just got more rewarding

The secured version is different from the standard Credit Card in a few ways. First, it doesn’t require a hard credit check*—meaning you can apply and be approved with a low credit score or no credit history. Second, the secured version requires security funds that are used to determine your credit limit.

When you apply for the Tims Credit Card on the Tim Hortons app, you’ll be presented with two versions to choose from: secured or standard. Select the secured version to apply for the secured Tims Credit Card.*

A hard credit check is a thorough review of your credit history that’s usually carried out by lenders when you apply for credit. It’s visible on your credit report for about two years.

A soft credit check is a more basic look at your credit, often done to pre-approve you for offers, some types of products, or when you check your own credit score. Soft checks won't affect your credit score and aren't visible to companies.

The minimum amount you can provide as security funds is $50 and the maximum is $10,000.

Requesting a credit limit increase is as simple as depositing extra security funds—up to a maximum credit limit of $10,000.

To get approved for the secured version of the Tims Credit Card, you need to pass our regulatory KYC (know your customer) checks and provide security funds. If you can successfully complete both steps, you’ll be approved.*

Please note, you must also be the age of majority in your province or territory to be approved for the secured Tims Credit Card.
